Art of the Olympians Presents Shutter Speed by Cameron Myler

On April 1, Art of the Olympians (AOTO) will welcome Olympian and Artist Cameron Myler to southwest Florida for the opening of Shutter Speed a collection of more than 20 vivid photographic works.

Myler is a four-time Olympian in the sport of luge and is considered to be the most successful American woman in the history of the sport. She competed in the Olympic Winter Games in 1988 (Calgary, Canada), 1992 (Albertville, France), 1994 (Lillehammer, Norway), and 1998 (Nagano, Japan). Cameron holds seven U.S. National Championship titles and was named U.S. Luge Athlete of the Year nine times. During her athletic career she held more than 30 of 34 U.S. records at tracks around the world. In 1998, Myler was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the National Association for Sport and Physical Education.

Myler graduated from Dartmouth College cum laude in 1995, and after retiring from Olympic competition, attended Boston College Law School where she received her law degree in 2001. She currently practices law in New York City, where she advises clients in the entertainment, sports, and media industries.

Families, friends and community members are invited to attend a special reception, on Friday, April 1 from 5-8 p.m. to celebrate the opening of Shutter Speed in the Cultural Art Gallery at the Art of the Olympians Al Oerter Center for Excellence at 1300 Hendry St., Fort Myers, FL.

Myler’s creative energy needed an outlet after she retired from sport. Now this passion is captured through her photography.

The scope of Myler's creative endeavors is expanding to include a line of artisanally crafted handbags that will debut under the Cameron Waulker brand in the spring of 2011. Her bags, which incorporate wool fabric that she has knitted and felted, are influenced by both her Scottish heritage and an affinity for modern design.

Admission to the reception is free of charge.

Gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gallery is closed on Sundays, Mondays and holidays.
