Carl Borack

Borack’s filmmaking connection began with the founding of his own commercial production company, where he designed, produced and/or directed a string of award winning films, commercials and public service announcements for major corporations such as Mobil, Avon, and Hoffman la Roche. In time, the company's roster came to include CBS records, MCA/Universal, Amblin Productions, Mirage Productions and SFM Media.
Borack transitioned to film and TV when he produced "the big fix," based on the novel by Roger Simon, a Universal/MCA release starring Richard Dreyfuss (who co-produced), John Lithgow, Susan Anspach, F. Murray Abraham, Ron Rifkin, and Bonnie Bedelia. he co-created and co-executive produced "key tortuga," an hour action-adventure television pilot for paramount pictures television and CBS, and he served as executive in charge of production on "watchers," a Universal release/Carolco production, starring Corey Haim and Michael Ironside, based on the novel by Dean Koontz.

for the stage, Borack, in association with Jon Voight, produced the widely praised Los Angeles Production of David Rabe's "The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel," as well as the video production of "othello," starring Richard Dreyfuss and Paul Winfield.

Borack produced the trio of critically acclaimed family films, Shiloh, Shiloh Season and Saving Shiloh along with producing partner Dale Rosenbloom. A meticulous, hands-on filmmaker, Borack was intimately involved in virtually every aspect of bringing the films to life – shepherding the Shiloh trilogy through production, overseeing its release and marketing strategy. respected film critic, Roger Ebert, wrote in his movie year book 2000, "what's unique about both films (Shiloh and Shiloh Season) is that they're about hard ethical issues that kids can identify with." Warner Bros handled the domestic release of all three films.

Borack served as executive produced “Bienvenue Cannes”, a documentary on the Cannes Film Festival directed by Richard Schickel, which had its broadcast debut on the TCM cable channel and DVD release by genius video. He also served as executive producer on “the final season” a feature film directed by David Mickey Evans (Sandlot, Sandlot 2) and starring Sean Astin, Powers Booth, James Gammon, Tom Arnold, Rachel Leigh Cook, Larry Miller, and Michael Angarno. The final season premiered at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival, and had its theatrical release by the Yari Film Group on 1000 screens in October ‘07, and its DVD release by Sony in April ’08 followed by a premium cable premiere on Starz/Encore.

Borack, along with chip Rosenbloom and director, Sandy Tung produced “Alice Upside Down,” a movie based on the character from the books by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. The film was released by starz/encore home entertainment.

Borack had a distinguished career as a competitive fencer, with success in all three "weapons" -- foil, epee, and saber. He was a member of the 1972 U.U. Olympic fencing team and competed in the Munich Olympics. He was U.S. national champion in men's foil; a two-time gold medal winner (foil team & epee team) in the Pan-American Games, a gold medalist in the saber event at the Maccabiah Games, along with a gold in epee team and a bronze in the foil and saber team events. Following his competitive career he has continued to serve his sport. He has served as captain (non-playing) of the U.S.. Olympic fencing team in 1988, '92 and '96, & 2000; and the Pan-American Games teams in 1987,'91, and '95. He has served as the U.S. chief of mission and/or captain on numerous world championship, and cadet/junior world championship teams. He was elected executive vice president of the U.S. fencing association, and also served as a member of the U.S. Olympic committee’s public relations committee. In 1996, 2000, and 2004 he was elected to the international fencing federation’s (fie) “publicity and promotion commission” and serves as its president during his last term.
